Course Description

This foundational unit is designed to provide foot health practitioners with a comprehensive understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the human body, with a special focus on how these systems relate to the lower limb. Learners will explore the structure and function of key body systems, including the circulatory, respiratory, musculoskeletal, nervous, endocrine, digestive, urinary, and lymphatic systems.

The course delves into how these systems interact and maintain balance in the body, with particular emphasis on their relevance to foot health care. Topics covered include the function of muscles in the lower limb, the immune response, blood pressure measurement, and how to assess circulation in the lower extremities.

Learners will also examine common circulatory disorders such as varicose veins and the impact of exercise on these conditions. By the end of the unit, practitioners will have the essential knowledge to confidently assess, understand, and manage the foot in relation to overall systemic health.
