Course Description

This unit provides a thorough exploration of dermatological and nail health, specifically within the context of foot care practice. It is divided into 14 key chapters, each focusing on essential knowledge and practical skills.

It covers the structure and function of the skin and nails, their response to ageing, and the essential role of nutrition in maintaining healthy tissue. Learners will gain insight into various skin and nail disorders, including dystrophies, infections such as onychomycosis and onychocryptosis, and how to treat these conditions safely and effectively.

The course also focuses on how dermatological pathologies form due to pressure and friction, and how to manage them through appropriate treatments and referral when needed. Legal responsibilities are addressed through modules on documentation, data protection, and client confidentiality. In addition, students will become familiar with treatment materials, the use of corticosteroids, and the application of dressing and abrasion techniques.

By the end of this course, practitioners will be equipped with the knowledge and hands-on skills needed to assess, treat, and manage a wide range of skin and nail conditions in a foot healthcare setting.
